Why Should I get my Carpets Cleaned?

To schedule an appointment click the "Schedule Online" button at the top left hand corner of the page.

A carpet that has been rid of dirt, spots and residue is one important aspect of having your carpets cleaned. But more important than looks is the effects that carpet cleaning has on you and your family’s health. Outdoor air contains hundreds of chemicals such as pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust and many others. When you and your family members come into your home, you carry those pollens, bacteria and chemicals in your hair and on your skin, clothing and shoes. Not surprisingly, all those chemicals, pollens and bacteria wind up in your carpet. If you have allergies, asthma, emphysema, or other breathing problems, one major source of your problem could be the pollens, fungus, and chemicals in your carpet. You might find that you'll breath easier after you hire a company to get those harmful chemicals out of your carpet. So in addition to getting rid of dirt, another important reason to clean your carpet is to get rid of pollens, fungus, bacteria, chemicals and the tars and residue from tobacco smoke.

Which Method of Cleaning does Xtreme Clean Pro Use?

We use the Hot Water Extraction  (otherwise known as steam cleaning) method to professionally clean carpets. We use a truck mount unit with adjustable pressures up to 1200 psi. Our unit is equipped with a heat exchanger to properly heat our water and solution to professionally clean carpet, upholstery, area rugs, automobiles, and even tile and grout.  Our high powered vacuum leaves carpets damp which means your carpets will be dry faster. Not only that but we use a 2,200 cfm air mover to help dry your carpets even faster!

How Often Should Your Carpet Be Professionally Cleaned?

The IICRC* has stated in the Standard for Carpet Cleaning that "Consumers must not wait until carpet looks soiled before cleaning. Experts agree that clean carpet contributes not only to the overall aesthetics of a structure, but plays a significant role in the healthful state of the overall environment in which people... spend the majority of their time."

The United States EPA in a letter dated January, 1989 (referenced in the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Standard*) included the following information to serve as a guideline for cleaning frequencies for carpet from a health perspective.

Home Environment

Normal Conditions Dusty Outside Cold Weather Climates High Humidity Climates
2-People, Non Smoking 6-12 months 2 months 4-6 months 4-6 months
2-People, Smoking 4 months 2 months 3 months 4-6 months
With Young Children 6 months 1 month 3 months 3 months
With Young Children and Pets 3-6 months 1 month 2 months 2 months

*What is the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Standard?
This Industry Standard was developed to define the minimum standards for carpet care by a task force with input from DuPont, the EPA, Shaw Industries, ASCAR, BASF Fibers, the Carpet and Fabricare Institute, the Carpet Manufacturers Association, S.C. Johnston Wax, Monsanto, Miliken, and others for the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)

How long does it take to dry?

It depends on the style of carpet your have, airflow, and heat. No carpet should ever take longer than 24 hours to dry. Most carpets will take anywhere between 4 and 24 hours to dry. Set your thermostat anywhere from 68 to 70, turn on all ceiling fans, place any fans you have on your carpet, and your carpet will dry in no time. The more airflow the better. With our extra steps your carpet will dry even faster!

Is it Safe?

Xtreme Clean Pro uses an environmentally safe green cleaning pre-spray detergent on your carpet and upholstery. Our green cleaning pre-spray is safe for your children and pets. For spot treatments we use a variety of chemicals and techniques and it is recommended that you keep your children and pets away from those areas until the carpets are completely dry. On tile and grout we use a high alkaline cleaner which helps loosen those dry soils. Grout lines can be a tough job and we have found a high alkaline based tile cleaner does the best job. It is recommended you keep your children and pets off of the tile until the tile is completely dry.

Should I vacuum the carpets first?

Vacuuming the carpets the day before or the day of our arrival certainly helps and is recommended.
